1. MOST WOMEN BELIEVE THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM IF THEY ARE CRAZY NERVOUS BEFORE THEIR PHOTO SHOOT
Well, let me tell you that 99% of the women I photograph are definitely crazy nervous before their photo shoot. In fact, I might be a little concerned if they weren’t! It’s a pretty big deal to get in front of a camera. And honestly, those butterflies are just an indication of how important this is to you. But rest assured, those nerves will dissipate super quickly.
2. MOST WOMEN ARE AFRAID THAT THEY WON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEIR BODIES
So just go ahead and cut yourself some slack on this one because unless you are a professional model or dancer, you are not going to know what to do with your body. This is the photographer’s job. She/he should know how to coach you through body movements, poses and facial expressions. You will be amazed by how easy it actually is when someone with experience is guiding you through the process. Check out the blog post I wrote, On Posing, Fear and Yoga, for a bit more on this topic.
3. SOME WOMEN FEEL LIKE THEY NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT BEFORE THEIR PHOTO SHOOT
Curves are beautiful! However, if this is a concern of yours, then this is where an experienced photographer will step in and lead the way. She/he should know how to make you look your very best through the use of lighting, posing and wardrobe. After-all, the ultimate goal here is to show you how amazingly beautiful you are right now, just as you are!
4. MOST WOMEN HAVE A NASTY LITTLE HABIT OF COMPARING THEMSELVES TO OTHER WOMEN
Imagery is powerful. It can transform the way we see the world, but more importantly, the way we see ourselves. Unfortunately, women are really hard on themselves and to make matters worse, most of the imagery on social media and TV is radically altered. We all know this and this a sad and frustrating truth, but celebrating that you are the one and only you can be quite a liberating thing! You might find comfort in this this very personal blog post about my own journey with self image and photography.
5. A LOT OF WOMEN TEND TO STRESS THEMSELVES OUT OVER WHAT TO WEAR
It is definitely the photographer’s responsibility to help you prepare your wardrobe. I believe that a photo session is a creative collaboration between the artist and the client. There must be a meaningful conversation well before the day of the shoot that addresses your vision for your final images as well as any concerns you may have. Wardrobe planning should be fun and creative! I want you to enjoy thinking about and shopping for outfits, not stressing over it! Read What Should You Bring to a Boudoir Session Anyways for more of my thoughts on it.
6. SOME WOMEN DON’T USE THEIR PHOTO SHOOT AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO TREAT THEMSELVES
There are so many ways that women can take advantage of this special occasion from a fresh haircut and color, a manicure & pedicure, a massage, a full blown spa day, a shopping trip with friends, a date night with your partner on the evening after your session (because you will look fabulous). I mean really, how often will you be planning a photo shoot for yourself? By all means, live it up!
7. MOST WOMEN FEEL QUILTY ABOUT SPENDING MONEY ON THEMSELVES
As a Mother of three kiddos, I get it. I really do. That’s why I’ve tried to make this kind of investment in yourself even easier by offering various payment plans and gorgeous final products. I also created this short video to give a behind the scenes look at what happens during a Boudoir Session from start to finish.
Choosing a photographer is an important decision and I hope that reading through this has given you some insight into making an educated choice. Have questions or want to book your own session? Let’s chat about it.
