I think most women spend a lot of their lives looking at themselves through a very critical lens.
We notice the stomach we wish were flatter. The arms we don’t love. The wrinkles that weren’t there ten years ago. The things that changed after having babies, gaining weight, losing weight, getting older, going through hard things, or simply… living.
And somewhere along the way, we can forget what it feels like to look at ourselves and think, Damn. I’m beautiful.
That’s one of the reasons I love Boudoir so much.
Because Boudoir isn’t really about lingerie.
It’s not about having the “perfect” body, knowing how to pose, or walking into a studio already feeling confident and sexy.
Honestly, most women who come through my door don’t feel that way at all.
They come in nervous.
Sometimes VERY nervous.
They tell me they’re awkward in photos. They don’t know what to do with their hands. They hate their stomach. They haven’t worn something like this in years. They’re worried they’ll look ridiculous.
And then something happens.
Little by little, they relax.
They start laughing.
They stop worrying about how they look and start enjoying how they feel.
And eventually, I’ll turn the camera around and show them a photograph.
And I get to watch their face change.
Sometimes they’re surprised.
Sometimes they get emotional.
Sometimes they just stare at the image for a second and say, “Wait… is that me?”
Yep.
It is.
YOU.
The woman you may have been too busy, too critical, or too distracted to really see.
Boudoir can be a gift for someone else, of course. But after doing this for so many years, I’ve come to believe that the most meaningful gift is often the one you give yourself.
Maybe you’re celebrating a birthday.
Maybe you’ve lost weight.
Maybe you’ve gained weight and are learning to love yourself where you are.
Maybe your kids are grown and you’re remembering who you were before motherhood.
Maybe you’re starting over.
Maybe you’re getting married.
Maybe you’re divorced.
Maybe you’ve spent years putting everyone else first and you’re finally saying, “You know what? This time, I’m doing something for me.”
Or maybe there isn’t a big reason at all.
Maybe you simply want to remember this version of yourself.
Because this body is yours.
This age is yours.
This chapter is yours.
And you don’t have to wait until you lose ten pounds, get younger, become more confident, or somehow become a “better” version of yourself to be photographed.
You are allowed to celebrate yourself now.
And that’s really what I want Boudoir to be.
Not a performance.
Not trying to look like someone else.
Not pretending to be confident when you aren’t.
It’s an experience where you can walk into the room exactly as you are and let someone else take care of the rest.
I’ll guide you through the posing. I’ll help you know what to do with your hands, where to look, how to move, and how to make the most flattering images of you.
You don’t have to know how to be sexy.
You don’t have to know how to pose.
You don’t even have to feel confident when you walk through the door.
That’s my job.
Your job is simply to show up.
And maybe, somewhere between the nervous laughter and the beautiful photographs, you’ll see something you haven’t seen in yourself for a while.
Not perfection.
Not someone else’s idea of beauty.
You.
And maybe you’ll leave thinking a little differently about the woman looking back at you in the mirror.
Maybe you’ll be a little kinder to her.
Maybe you’ll appreciate her a little more.
Maybe you’ll realize she was beautiful all along.
That’s why Boudoir.
Not because you need to prove anything.
But because you deserve to see yourself the way the people who love you see you.
And honestly?
You deserve to see her, too.
