A couple of times a year I like to play the client and have fun in the studio with one of my makeup artists. I control my camera’s settings, give her a quick tutorial and direct her the entire time. We play music, take turns trying on outfits, experiment with new poses, laugh at ourselves and each other and walk away feeling empowered, beautiful and personally satisfied with some kick ass shots.
I fully embrace these opportunities to experience all the feelings that my clients have: the nerves and worries and what ifs. Now, I definitely have my hang ups, but I’m pretty proud to admit that I’m at a point in my life where I actually feel quite good about myself and my body. I can finally respect the fact that it has created three amazing human beings, that it is strong and flexible and graceful, that it loves deeply. Even though this hasn’t always been the case, because I am a work in progress just like all of you, I believe that age and life experience brings wisdom, self respect and above all, acceptance of what is. What a relief, right?
With all of that said, I will tell you this: peeling away clothes and getting in front of the camera in a cozy, safe, warm, female only zone with music and chocolate, makeup and pretty lingerie is fun. Lots of fun. But fair warning, you will want to do it again. And again. And quite possibly, again…
