Being allowed to photograph people is such a privilege, particularly photographing women. I cannot possibly put into words how deeply moved I am when someone feels comfortable enough with me to not only capture the way they look in that moment, but to share their story…and we all have a story.
Women, in general, are incredibly hard on themselves. We all have some kind of perceived issue we are dealing with, wether it’s body related (and it usually is), personal relationships, financial difficulties or self esteem. All of our issues are packaged slightly differently, but no matter the issue, I truly believe it all comes down to fear.
I know it is not easy to be photographed…in fact, it can be down right awkward and unnerving. We so often run at lightning speed shy away from making ourselves vulnerable, allowing others to truly see us, being fully present and aware of our bodies and emotions. So, to all of the people that I have thus far been allowed to work with, I applaud you and I thank you.
And to anyone who is struggling with some kind of perceived issue, anyone who has ever looked in the mirror and not felt good about themselves, I invite you to read the quote above again. And then again and again and again…
* This image is of my very good and beautiful friend who has allowed me, a number of times, into her story.
You are beautiful…let me show you.
